Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: J.J. – Abrams On Being Less Secretive With The Film

If anything at all is known about J.J. Abrams, it’s that he loves a good mystery, and seems to prefer them to be in a box (he has a really good Ted Talk on the subject). Any fan Abrams knows this all too well. This must coms in handy for Abrams when working on big-name franchises which have many secrets that must be heavily guarded at all times.

Though it seems for Abrams’s upcoming film, a little project known as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, J.J. has in some ways shied away from his usual stance when discussing his films. Check out what he had to say during a recent interview with Empire.

“None of that is strategic. But I do feel about this movie, because it is the end of something everyone knows — I don’t want to be coy. I feel very confident about what the movie is. And I feel like we’ve found a way to do something that doesn’t need — and I don’t feel the need — to do smoke and mirrors at all on this. I feel we have a story that’s pretty huge in scope. While I don’t want to tell the whole movie to people and ruin it and I don’t want to spoil things, I feel like we need to be able to have a conversation about how, yes, Carrie Fisher appears in this movie. And I’m happy to talk about how we did it, in so much as, people know, it’s really her. We didn’t do a digital Carrie. Yes, Palpatine is in this movie. I don’t want to talk about what that is and how. SO I’m not unguarded, because I want to make sure people enjoy the experience when they go. But I feel, about this movie, a little more open, I guess, than I have before.”

Even with Abrams’ techniques of preventing spoilers, which is now backed by the cinematic First Order known as The Walt Disney Company, leaks have still found their way on to Reddit. Perhaps J.J. being more forthcoming, even if it is ever so slightly, is his way of loosening his grip for fear of more leaks slipping through his fingers. LRM‘s own Cam Clark has had a peek at one or two of those leaks and believes what he’s read to be legit.

Less than a month until the end of Star Wars as we know it.
