Stargirl Cast Adds Tarabay and Cake As Eclipso And The Shade

The CW continues to crank out their DC superhero TV line. Whether you like them or not, they do have lasting power. As Arrow took its gracious bow last year Stargirl made her way to DC Universe, and the CW. Season 2 will be exclusively on the CW. In preparation, Stargirl has recently cast the season’s primary antagonists: Eclipso and The Shade.

DC's Stargirl on Twitter: "Stargirl is coming to The CW in Spring 2020! #DCStargirl… "

Season 1 of Stargirl is a relative success with a larger budget than most CW shows due to its initial release on DC Universe. However, there are concerns regarding actors and effects having to be reduced due to budget constraints for the CW. From the recent casting updates, that area looks to be unaffected.

Eclipso

Who Is Stargirl's Eclipso? Here's What We Know From The Comics - CINEMABLEND

Nick Tarabay (Arrow, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Star Trek Into Darkness) returns to the DC Universe. Although it was a smaller role, he was Digger Harkness/Captain Boomerang in Arrow. Eclipso will be the primary, series regular antagonist for Stargirl in Season 2. The character brings out the flaws and darkness in others. Eclipso is an ancient being who is trapped in a blue diamond. This is the same blue diamond that Cindy stole in Season 1.

Geoff Johns (Stargirl creator) spoke at the New York Comic Con about Season 2’s villain:

“Eclipso is so terrifying. I’ve always loved the character, and he’s a very different antagonist or villain than the [Injustice Society of America].”

What type of trouble will Eclipso cause Stargirl? Only time will tell, but I am excited about the casting of Tarabay for the role.

The Shade

Jonathan Cake (The Affair, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) will be portraying The Shade. Unlike Eclipso, The Shade will be appearing in a recurring role and not as a regular. Cake is also no stranger to DCTV. He played Blackbeard in two episodes of Legends in 2018.

The Shade is immortal with magical shadow powers. Johns also discussed the character at the New York Comic Con as:

“The most powerful of them all, and very threatening because no one knows exactly what he wants.”

The character is often seen as an antihero, but looks to bring the horrors of his long life and magical powers to the show. Cake will be another good addition. Both individuals are no strangers to the universe, which is also helpful.

Ysa Penarejo rounds out the casting in a currently unknown role.
