Static Shock Film Produced By Michael B. Jordan Coming Our Way!

Static Shock

Back in the year 2000, Warner Bros. Animation brought us the animated series Static Shock on Kids’ WB. The character was created by Milestone Media’s Dwayne McDuffie and Denys Cowan in the ’90s. The series ran for four seasons with a total of 52 episodes. The series revolves around the African-American teenager Virgil Hawkins. He uses his secret superhero identity as Static to fight crime. This was one of my favorite cartoons to watch after school.

Back in August, we got a little tease about the possibility of Static making his way to a feature film. This came during the Milestone panel at DC FanDome. This came from filmmaker Reginald Hudlin who used the words, “serious conversations”. Now thanks to Variety, we have learned how serious those conversations have been. Variety is reporting that Michael B. Jordan will produce the Static Shock film adaptation. He will produce the film via his Warner Bros. based Outlier Society banner.

“I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around Black superheroes; our community deserves that,” Jordan said in a statement. “Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms. We are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros. on this initial step.”

The animated series was important. It’s not very often that an African-American superhero as the title character in their own animated series. Now Static is ready to jump out of your television screens and into the big screen. Relax, the big screens will be back soon!

I’ve had several conversations with the cast and producers for Black Lightning. Often brought up the possibility of the addition of Virgil to the series. Looks like DC had bigger plans for the electrifying superhero. Jordan has done amazing work in past films. I am excited about the possibilities that a Static film can be. Also the idea of other Milestone/DC characters that can be part of that film. We will keep everyone in the loop with everything we hear going forward!
