When it comes to anime adaptations, there are countless series and films out there are the obvious picks for live-action movies. At this point, many of those have either been made or are in the process of getting made, leaving some more obscure titles left to take on. And yet, I can’t say the anime series Steins;Gate is one I ever expected to get a live-action adaptation.

The show started off as a visual novel before it received an acclaimed anime adaptation, which is where many fans, including myself, jumped on board. Now, according to ANN, the show is getting the Hollywood TV treatment. At a special “Science ADV Live S;G 1010th Anniversary” event, it was revealed that Skydance Television would be producing the project.

While there was no specific date for the project, it was stated that it would be streaming worldwide “soon.” 

The story of Steins;Gate follows scientist Rintaro Okabe, who inadvertently discovers that he can send text messages back in time. From there, in true anime fashion, things go all over and end in pretty unexpected places. It certainly isn’t the first choice I would have come up with for a live-action adaptation, but it’s certainly fitting. Seems like a perfect fit for someone like Noah Hawley to take charge, honestly.
