Like many other video game adaptations, Uncharted has certainly been through the wringer. It’s gone through 87 million directors, and only recently picked up Venom’s Ruben Fleischer. Given that this project has a December 18, 2020 release date, I think it’s easy to say no one really expected the studio to actually make it. With less than a year left until that date, it’d be a fool’s errand.
As such, it comes as no surprise that Sony’s Columbia Pictures has delayed the project once again…though it doesn’t delay it as far as you would expect. According to Engadget, the new date is March 5, 2021.
I mentioned above that Fleischer recently jumped on board. This came just after the departure of Bumblebee’s Travis Knight. While this may seem like a bit of a downgrade in terms of directors, Fleischer is a filmmaker who gets things made fairly.
This also seems to be an indication that the screenplay — from Rafe Judkins and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway — will require few changes, and therefore will require little turnaround time.
What do you think? While a delayed release date normally doesn’t inspire much confidence in a project getting done, the fact that it’s only a few months does make me think it’s going to get made this time. But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts down below!
