Steven Yeun Cast In Undisclosed Role For Thunderbolts – Sentry?

At CinemaCon this last week Kevin Feige confirmed that the title of Thunderbolts is now Thunderbolts* though never explained why.

Deadline reports that Steven Yeun has been cast in an undisclosed role within Thunderbolts. Given all the rumors around that movie, the question is clear, is Steven Yeun Marvel’s Sentry? That we cannot say for certain, but since Sentry is rumored to be the main antagonist of Thunderbolts, it’s worth considering for sure.

Here is what the trade had to say.

Following his Oscar-nominated role in Minari and scene-stealing part in Nope, Steven Yeun is continuing to show his range as he is now looking to add a Marvel movie to his resume. Sources tell Deadline, Yeun is set to join Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, in a part that is not only significant to this film but could also play a role going forward in future films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The fact the part is considered one that will grow is another reason to suspect Sentry. I will also assume Yeun’s is an antagonistic role. My reasoning being that we had the main team announced already and all are existing characters. Though obviously we cannot say for certain who Yeun is playing. If it is Sentry, this would be a race change from the comics. Yet, I feel this is one of those times when the race of the character is irrelevant.

That being said, Yeun could be playing someone we don’t even know or haven’t guessed in our wildest speculation so far. I guess whoever it is, the character seems unlikely to be a one and done. Which you’d expect given Yeun’s rising star.

So far we have Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. Ayo Edebiri also joined the ensemble in an undisclosed role. Also, whilst not announced , it’s expected that Harrison Ford will reprise his role from Captain America: New World Order. Ford will play President Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in New World Order. Therefore, given this is the Thunderbolts film, it seems unlikely Ford won’t feature.

July 26th of 2024 is the current release date for Thunderbolts. However there are a lot of rumors right now about the Marvel slate all being delayed. If that is the case we cannot guarantee any date currently set will stick. We wait and see though for now.

What do you think as Steven Yeun has been cast in an undisclosed role within Thunderbolts? Could he be playing Marvel’s Sentry in the MCU? As always, leave any thoughts below.
