We found out recently that Steven Yeun will play an undisclosed role in Thunderbolts. For now, all we know is that role is supposed to be antagonistic to the actual Thunderbolts team. With a rising star like Yeun, you can bet this isn’t just a throwaway part, and there are rumors. However, I will wait until after Yeun’s quotes before discussing those in case anyone wants to drop out prior.
Speaking with Empire Online at the Oscars ceremony, Yeun was aked about his mysterious role in Thunderbolts. The trade asked if being in the MCU was on Yeun’s bucket list for his career?
“I don’t know if it was explicitly on my bucket list,” Yeun said of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It was more the story, getting to work with Jake Schreier again, who directed Beef, and what his intentions were. The intentions of the particular character that they wanted me to play were very clear, and that’s what drew me to the film.”
Nice Marvel friendly answer there and I would honestly not read too much into any of his comments. Of course that hasn’t stopped me seeing headlines like , ‘Yeun hints at SPOILER casting for Thunderbolts‘. Let’s be clear, Yeun has done nothing more here than confirm he’s in Thunderbolts, that’s it, and we knew that.
As for the rumors?

If you follow the rumors we post under Barside Buzz, then you likely already know who Yeun has been hotly tipped to play. The rumors is that Yeun will play the role of Sentry. Now if you have never heard of that Marvel character before I would not blame you. I never came across Sentry during my comic book years. However I became aware of the character later because he’s reportedly one the most powerful characters in all of the Marvel comics. However, he is also flawed and can be extremely dangerous, like apocalyptically dangerous. The rumors say that Sentry is an experiment by a government, maybe even the US itself. The Thunderbolts will be brought together to go up against Sentry and on that front they are laughably out matched in terms of raw power.
However for now, this is just rumors and we cannot guarantee that Sentry even shows up, never mind that Yeun is playing him.
