Stranger Things Season 3 Sets A Netflix Record

Stranger Things 4 Set Photos Indicate A Rough Time For Eleven

The D&D crew from Hawkins, Indiana have plenty to celebrate, according to Netflix’s latest quarterly earnings report. The third season of the streaming giant’s original series Stranger Things scored more than 64 million views in the four weeks following the July 4th premiere, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This achievement by the popular series surpasses any of Netflix’s previous creations. This news doesn’t come as too much of a surprise as the series was able to garner views from 40.7 million member accounts in less than a week after its big premiere on Netflix. More than 18 million of those viewing households finished the entire series within a few days.

The previous record-holder for the streaming giant, The Umbrella Academy, stood proudly with 45 million viewing households until Eleven and friends shattered that milestone. Additionally, viewing of the new season rose 21 percent in comparison to the Halloween-themed second season.

In the quarterly letter to their shareholders, Netflix included the numerous other successes within their catalog of entertainment. The series Unbelievable has been viewed by over 32 million member accounts in its first four weeks. La Casa de Papel (aka Money Heist) was the most-watched show in non-English language territories, tallying 44 million-member viewings. As for Netflix’s motion pictures, The Hollywood Reporter piece detailed the following:

On the feature film side, Netflix said the family film Tall Girl was viewed by 41 million member accounts in its first four weeks; the thriller Secret Obsession, starring Brenda Song, racked up 40 million views in 28 days; and Otherhood, starring Angela Bassett, Patricia Arquette and Felicity Huffman, drew 29 million worldwide views in its first four weeks.

As a Stranger Things fanatic–being a lover of all things Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter, this series is pure beauty–it’s good to hear how big of an impact this series has had. In the streaming world, this summer belonged to the Hawkins kids; not only by the number of public conversations I have had regarding the series, but now proven by the incredible viewing marks it hit. Here’s to a successful fourth season for this standout series.
