Suicide Squad: David Ayer Confirms ‘The Ayer Cut’ Exists, Directs Fans To HBO Max And ATT

Suicide Squad has an Ayer Cut after all!

Have we entered the age of director’s cuts? I know they’ve existed before, but it certainly feels like there is a push from fans to see unfiltered visions of movies from their directors. We saw an entire movement pop up around Zack Snyder’s Justice League with the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement. That ultimately led to a pending HBO Max release. As soon as that was confirmed, fans turned their attention to Suicide Squad, a David Ayer film famously butchered by Warner Bros.

Because of how well Ayer plays ball with the studio, I foolishly believed there would be no possibility of seeing this cut come to fruition. Unlike Zack Snyder, it didn’t seem like Ayer was interested in casting his eyes to the past. However, on Twitter, Ayer seemed to indicate at least a passing interest in making this happen. And now, he has confirmed that his original cut of the film exists.

“Cut definitely exists – you’ll need to ask @ATT and @hbomax to let it see the sunlight 🙌🏻”

If you’ve been following Suicide Squad throughout its production process, you’ll know this isn’t exactly news. Quite famously, the studio hired a different editing house to cut the film while Ayer worked on his own version. It’s not like we expected Warner Bros. to delete the film.

However, this post does seem to confirm that David Ayer is game for Suicide Squad and “The Ayer Cut,” should the studio be on board with it. So, ladies and gents, if you really want to see David Ayer’s vision of Suicide Squad, all we need is a movement of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut proportions.
