Everyone’s favorite mushroom smashing, brick breaking, pipe invader Mario will be returning to the screen in 2022 with an animated film. One of the most recognizable characters in the entire world, Mario is long overdue for a new adventure, with his last outing being arguable the worst adaptation of a video game, ever.

During a company financial briefing last year, Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo, had revealed the release date. You can check out what he had to say below.

Finally fans learn that a new Mario film is moving forward, and that his big screen reputation may be redeemeed. The 1993 film that starrd  BobHoskins as Mario and John Leguizamo as Luigi was absolutely awful. I left the theater as a kid utterly disappointed. Still Not sure how this was approved, though back then I am guessing studio execs weren’t as savvy about video games as they are these days. Still today, one has to look hard to find a good film adaptation of a video game, there’s just something about them.
