Today we are sharing the latest Superman: Legacy casting news. Some candidates have been revealed for the roles of Clark, Lex and Lois in the upcoming James Gunn movie. Trade THR reveals several names in the running for Lois and Clark, though only one for Lex. Other trades have a few slightly different details, we will get to them also. First though, the THR report.
THR
David Corenswet, is the actor they name for the role of Clark/Supes. However they also say there are ‘potential’ other contenders.
Jacob Elordi, the sought-after star who broke out as the resident villain on HBO series Euphoria, is a name that surfaced for the role of Kent but sources say he never submitted himself into the ring. British actors Tom Brittney and Andrew Richardson are also names that were in the early mix.
As for Lane, THR names several actresses, Emma Mackey (Sex Education), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton), and Samara Weaving (Scream VI). However THR also noted the below.
It is unclear who is advancing on to the testing stage. Brosnahan is said to have delivered an “outstanding” audition but, at 32, may be in the older range for what Gunn is ultimately hoping to achieve, a look at Metropolis heroics via 20-something characters.
Sources caution that some of these are not screen testing and have merely been in the mix. One source, without providing additional detail, dismissed some of the names as “a chatroom list.” Warners had no comment and one insider said the filmmakers and studio “are nowhere near a decision.”
As for Luthor, the actor THR names is Nicholas Hoult. However, as you will see below, other trades disagree with this one.
One role that seems to have only one person earmarked is the classic villain Luthor. Nicholas Hoult, currently starring in vampire thriller Renfield, has been tipped to play the bald-headed evil genius. Hoult’s name has been swirling around Legacy for several weeks now with some theorizing he was up for Superman.
Deadline & The Wrap
Following this THR report which hit first, we have a few disagreements when it comes to this info. This is what Deadline had to add.
Nicholas Hoult, David Corenswet, Jacob Elordi and Andrew Richardson are among the actors in mix for the Superman role.
Deadline‘s Justin Kroll on social media doubled down that Hoult is in for Superman, not Luthor.

Deadline names the same Lois actresses as the THR report and reiterates a decision may not come that quickly. However here is some more detail from Deadline around the Lex Luthor/villain role in the movie.
As for Superman’s nemesis, Lex Luthor, there are various routes it could land. While Gunn has been checking with some A-list names he’s worked with in the past, sources say one role that has been testing as been for a part simply labeled “Apex” and for those that aren’t Superman historians, that part could actually be Apex Lex Luthor, who is not only version of the villain that has the strength to fight Superman but also would hint at a potential multiverse situation as Apex Lex did have run ins with other Luthors in various dimensions.
Apex Luthor would seem like a really strange place to start. I have to assume Gunn would perhaps be smarter than to use that tag for casting calls if it’s the way he was going. I wonder if Apex is just his code for Luthor himself rather than the altered Superman powered level Luthor? But hey, what do I know?

The Apex casting label was backed up by The Wrap, alongside most of the rest of what Deadline and THR said. Though this trade suggest that Gunn make be looking at black actors for the part.
There’s another major role to fill as well: Lex Luthor. Sources indicate the antagonist role is labeled as “Apex” and that Gunn has been seeing Black actors for the part.
Now there has been a few rumors that Gunn is looking at one of his Guardians of the Galaxy actors for Lex Luthor. You can imagine that fans may jump to Dave Bautista on that. However, with Deadline‘s claim of A list actors, I did wonder whether Bradley Cooper could be a brilliant Lex Luthor? Not heard any legitimate rumors around this one, but just throwing it out there folks.
James Gunn has confirmed that Superman: Legacy will begin filming on January 24th, 2024. Therefore, I expect we will start to get some confirmation within the next month or so on some of these roles.
What do you think then of this latest Superman: Legacy casting news? Any thoughts on the rumored candidates for Clark, Lex or Lois? If you do, share them in the usual place below as always.
