We have some interesting Superman: Legacy new casting details to share today, plus some words from the movies director James Gunn. Vanity Fair revealed in a report that three secondary roles for Superman: Legacy have been cast. Check it out.

Isabela Merced will play Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi will be Mister Terrific and Nathan Fillion will portray a Green Lantern (although not necessarily the Green Lantern.)

I get where the trade is coming from by saying Guy Gardner is not the Green Lantern, but us comic books fans know that’s not really the case. There are many Green Lanterns in the DC Universe and one of them (Hal Jordan) was the main focus of the comic. However, the likes of Guy Gardner and John Stewart have also been Human Lanterns.

These are secondary roles and director James Gunn was quick to point out that the movie will still focus on Superman and Lois Lane. In series of posts following VF’s report on Threads, Gunn answered a few fan queries.

Responding to one fan saying they hope the movie remains focused on Clark and Lois, Gunn had this to say.

“The primary story most definitely revolves around Superman and Lois.”

Then when one fan asked what compelled Gunn to put these characters in a Superman story, he explained it was simple. That’s the story he wrote.

“They fit the story I’m telling. Story always comes first.”

Then when asked about why Fillion was cast, ahead of a Green Lantern show, Gunn explained that Fillion will play Gardner across all of the DCU from now on.

“The Green Lantern show is not separate; Nate will play Guy in all parts of the DCU.”

I like the fact that when we first drop into the DCU Superman isn’t just starting out. Sure, this is still the early days of Superman. However, the fact there are already enhanced/super heroes and villains is a different approach both to how the DCEU was set up and also how Marvel began the MCU.

So far the casting all seems cool, though I’m not that familiar with Hawkgirl or Mr. Terrific. I do however know Guy Gardner, even if I never liked him much. Alongside the casting of David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois, the cast is coming together impressively. For now we still await to find out who will be the Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen’s of the new DCU. That casting process is seemingly underway now. After that I guess they’ll cast some more smaller roles ahead of the production. Can’t wait to see some of these character in costume for the first time.
