Superman: Legacy Now Titled Simply Superman – Plus First Look At Symbol From Suit

One new piece of DCU casting news to share as it seems Pruitt Taylor Vince has been cast as Jonathan Kent in James Gunn's Superman.

Revealed in a social media post by director James Gunn, Superman: Legacy is now simply titled Superman, plus gives a first look the symbol from the suit. Ultimately the decision to change the title to a far simpler one is Gunn’s himself. Unlike most directors, Gunn is the co-head of DC Studios, so for once we can probably say this is not studio mandated.

Gunn posted the image below on Threads. It shows the new symbol from the suit that will be worn by David Corenswet in Superman. Sadly, we don’t get to see the rest of the suit, yet.

Here is what Gunn had to say on Threads.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday (!).”

“When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy.  By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.  Making our way to you July 2025.  Happy Birthday, Clark! UpUpAndAway.”

Gunn also answered a question from a fan about which artist was the inspiration for this suit? Gunn replied it was Alex Ross.

Funnily enough, this is actually the first live-action movie to simply be called SUPERMAN (if Gunn insists on the capitals). The original 70’s movie starring Christopher Reeves full title was Superman The Movie.

Honestly, for me, and I’m guessing most fans, the title isn’t that important. What is important is whether this is a great movie. Outside of a few Zack Snyder fans and their army of bots, I’m sure we all hope it’s great, no matter the title. Did I like the Legacy title? Nope, but it wasn’t that important, however, I guess this is just simpler for audiences.

What do you think as James Gunn reveals that Legacy is now simply titled Superman? What do you think of the symbol from the suit in the movie so far? Thoughts below as always.
