James Gunn Denies Recent Claims Of Massive Superman: Legacy Budget

Director and co-DCU Chairman James Gunn denies recent claims of a massive Superman: Legacy budget.

Director and co-DCU Chairman James Gunn denies recent claims of a massive Superman: Legacy budget. The first live-action instalment of the DCU has commenced production. However, a recent report by BizJournals.com about some cost savings claimed the budget for the movie was $364M. Gunn took to social media network Threads to deny the claim completely.

Check out the image below. Gunn was asked by a fan on Threads whether the budget claimed was accurate. Gunn’s response?

“Absolutely not. (laugh) How in the world do they think they know what our budget is?”

That does seem excessive and even with marketing costs matching the actual budget, that would still be around a $200M budget. It’s possible, as that’s a tentpole number, but I can’t see DCU spending $364 on the one movie, even with marketing. They want desperately for Superman: Legacy to make a profit. Which let’s be honest is not something many DC based movies have done lately.

Well, as a fan of Gunn’s movies so far, I have no issue saying I will be there to see Legacy in theaters. Some movies I wait for a trailer, but I need to see this one as soon as possible. Therefore, I’m likely seeing this first two weeks of release. That doesn’t mean it will be great, but I feel I have not been let down yet by Gunn as a director. For me the two best DC projects since the Nolan movies were The Suicide Squad movie and the Peacemaker TV series.

That being said, Superman is harder to pull off and this will require something a bit different from Gunn I think. Guess we will find out July next year.

What do you think of this as James Gunn denies recent claims of a massive Superman: Legacy budget? Thoughts below as always.
