Superman: Red Son Clip Shows Kal-El In Action On Behalf Of Mother Russia

The people of the world, the world that resides within the universe of DC comics sure are lucky Superman landed in Kansas right? Considering the time he arrived, had he landed in another country — say one with opposition to the good old U.S.A. — the history books could have ended up telling a much different story. Such is the case with the popular alternate Superman story, Red Son. In it, the Kryptonian refugee lands not in the heartland of America, but instead on a farm in the Soviet Union.

Finally leaping off the pages of a comic book, the retelling of Superman’s story has finally been adapted to an animated film, and while the trailer has been out for a while, today I bring you a clip of the film. Check it out down below!

I find this idea interesting due to my opinion that Superman, is, a Boy Scout — a goody-two-shoes.

This angle worked much better back when he debuted his wholesomeness, as it was much more digestible as opposed to the antiheroes many comics have today. A Soviet Superman is indeed a scary thought. Without the midwest upbringing of Ma and Pa Kent, Superman could have easily been made into a weapon for those with nefarious intentions.

There’s a small taste of this sort of Superman in the TV series Smallville (wow, that series was exhausting to watch) and, of course, in the Red Son comic as well.  A super-powered alien having allegiances to a country that ran on fascism. That wouldn’t be good for anyone, except said country.

In this reality, our only hope would be the one known as Batman. Even then, considering the time period and technological constraints, Batman, may not be able to save us.
