Superman: Red Son Trailer Hits

It’s no secret that I’m not a big Superman fan. I’ve never understood why people like him as much as they do. I don’t really turn to comics, books, shows, or movies for aspirational tales as much as I do for intriguing stories, and on a fundamental level, I think it makes no sense that an alien with superhuman powers in middle America doesn’t turn out to be a complete douchebag — I don’t care how good his parents are.

It’s for that reason that I found the Elseworlds comic Red Son to be infinitely more interesting. What if Kal-El had landed in the USSR instead of the United States? How would that change his personality? How would that change his goals and motivations?

If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it, but if reading’s not your think, DC just animated the darn thing and released a trailer for it.

Overall, it looks like this could be a solid adaptation, but I really wish Warner Bros. would give this thing more money and fanfare. Imagine if they gave it like $80 million and did a theatrical release? With a story this beloved, it’d be interesting to see how mainstream audiences would take a unique, serious animated movie.
