Superman: WB Denies Reports Of Henry Cavill’s Departure From DCEU

*Rubs hands together*

Who here is ready for the game of “he said, she said”? Well, like it or not, that’s where we’re at. Earlier this morning, it was revealed that Henry Cavill would no longer be serving as the Man of Steel in Warner Bros.’ DC Extended Universe films. Supposedly, talks fell through during negotiations to have the character appear in a cameo role in Shazam! and basically never recovered.

Coupled with the news that the studio was going to focus on Supergirl, meaning that we wouldn’t be getting a solo Superman film for several more years, it seemed like the writing was on the wall for everyone involved. Now, in a new statement from Warner Bros., those reports are being refused.

Here is the official statement from the studio:

“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”

This statement seems to be corroborated by a tweet from Cavill’s agent Dany Garcia, which we reported on earlier today.

Again, these two comments fly in the face of reports from reputable outlets. Another report earlier today revolved around one other specific actor, Michael B. Jordan, potentially donning the cape down the line. While I can’t say whether or not that’s false, it seems unlikely that multiple reputable outlets would be reporting similar stories from their own separate sources without their being a kernel of truth.

Even in the statement from Warner Bros., they don’t flat-out say that Cavill is sticking around, but that “no decisions have been made,” almost seeming to be leaving the door open in case things do change.
