Well, this is some news that is sure to smart a lot of DC fans. I know our own Manny Gomez has been ecstatic with what he’s seen so far of DC Universe’s Swamp Thing, as it really opens up what is possible on the small screen for these superhero characters. While I haven’t seen it myself (I don’t have DC Universe), everyone I’ve spoken to absolutely loves what Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman have brought to the character.

Apparently, it doesn’t really matter what fans are thinking though, because it’s only getting one season on DC’s streaming service. According to The GWW and Bloody Disgusting, DC Universe has canceled Swamp Thing after its first season.

This isn’t exactly a huge surprise. While reception has been pretty positive, this is a show that was reportedly shut down early during its production, with the series losing support from execs as they stared nervously as the limited number of DC Universe subscribers. Based on these reports, it sounds like they were growing nervous about getting too dark with their programming, which could turn off mainstream viewers to their service.

HOWEVER, we live in the age of franchise rescues, and given how well the series has been received, hopefully, DC will allow the filmmakers to go to other services like Netflix to continue on their vision. I’m sure Netflix would actually love that. With Disney vacating, perhaps it can be a home to new dark DC series.
