Taika Waititi Pitched Valkyrie As The Han Solo Of Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok will hit theaters next weekend. The film will introduce the character of Valkyrie, played by  Tessa Thompson. The actress says director Taika Waititi had an interesting way of pitching the character to her, using Han Solo to sell her on the idea of the character:

“It was quite collaborative but [Taika] and I got on from the minute we met each other. He pitched Valkyrie as sort of the Han Solo over the movie and so I sort of knew the space that she wanted to occupy, and we wanted to subvert any sort of cliches in our portrayal of her. I say ‘ours’ because he was really integral to that.”

While I don’t think it is a literal comparison to the iconic smuggler, it still leaves Thompson with some pretty big shoes to fill. While no character could surpass the awesomeness exuded by Han Solo, it doesn’t mean that Thompson can’t give us a really cool character that is the rogue within the confines of Thor: Ragnarok. Needless to say this information has left me even more excited for the film, and if you’ve read any of my other articles on the movie you know I am riding pretty high on the newest Thor adventure.
