Hm…it looks like Marvel Studios may have an interesting problem on their hands. During last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Disney famously let Guardians of the Galaxy writer-director James Gunn go for a series of controversial tweets from several years back. Of course, this left Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 without a director, leaving them to have to push it back indefinitely.
However, one potential helmer that many fans pointed to was Taika Waititi. While both filmmakers were about as different as they could both, bot utilized a lot of humor in their films, leading many to believe he’d be a good replacement. Unfortunately, there is one person who doesn’t seem to think he’d be a good fit: Taika Waititi, as he revealed during the TV Critics Association press tour.
“Nope. Not doing that movie,” he said. “For me, that’s James’ film. Going into something like that, which has got his stamp all over it, it would feel like going into someone’s house and saying ‘Hey, I’m your new dad.”

This is very interesting, because it seems like a lot of people feel that way about the Guardians franchise, and that there may not be any filmmakers out there who want to actually try and do James Gunn better than James Gunn — because that’s the only way to do a Guardians film, right?
However, if you still are hoping to see Waititi get behind the helm of another Marvel film, you’re in luck:
“I’m hanging out with [Marvel] still. Talking about new stuff, but I don’t know what that might be yet. I want to do another movie.”
