It might be delayed due to Coronavirus, but director Taiki Waititi is feeling positive about the Thor: Love and Thunder delay. The fourth Thor movie was due for release in November, 2021, but then got delayed to February, 2022. This kind of delay is unusual in the film industry. Suddenly, Waititi is faced with having several more months than he originally had to work on the script.
Waititi recently spoke with Total Film, and explained why he’s feeling positive about the Thor: Love and Thunder delay. The director was asked if he could tell the magazine anything about Thor: Love and Thunder?
“No, I can’t. I can’t at all. But the other thing is, there are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that. We’re still writing Love And Thunder, and I think it’s good to just keep writing, and then you know, we’ll have a really, really good script. And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it.”

I’ve seen a few fans online mention that this lockdown, could well produce some seriously good scripts. Writers the world over are stuck at home with only more script, or story work to occupy them. All the film industry’s creative people have far more time to work on projects now than they did before. As Waititi says, the film industry never has this time normally. So Hollywood, please use this time to create some quality content for later.
Waiti is a director and writer that I have every confidence in. I therefore cannot wait to see what lunacy he gives us in Thor: Love and Thunder. If we fans have to wait a little while longer to see it, so be it? What do you think of Waititi’s comments? Leave your thoughts below as always.
