Taylor Kitsch Joins Neill Blomkamp Sci-Fi Thriller Inferno

Neill Blomkamp has been chugging away at his own creative content for quite some time now, displaying his sci-fi filmmaking prowess through shorts you can find on YouTube and Oats Studios’ official website. While he made a splash a new talent in Hollywood with 2009’s District 9, his successive films didn’t really gain purchase with critics or mainstream audiences.

Now, however, it looks like he will be moving forward with a new sci-fi thriller called Inferno. Deadline is reporting that Lone Survivor and Waco actor Taylor Kitsch will be leading the flick, where he will be playing a cop.

In the story, Kitsch’s character will be investigating a murder in New Mexico, but with the FBI cutting in, it appears that the threat may be much larger than originally thought. In fact, it may not be of this planet at all. “The hunt for the killer puts him face-to-face with a humanoid beast who will stop at nothing to exterminate the one witness to the crime.”

A couple of months back, when Blomkamp announced his departure from RoboCop Returns, he said he would be leaving that in favor of a horror film. It’s not clear if this is indeed that horror film, but given the premise, it sounds like it very well could be.

What do you think of Kitsch taking on Blomkamp’s latest? Could this be another way for him to return to the mainstream, and can Blomkamp return to the favor of fans and critics for his fourth outing? Let us know your thoughts down below!
