It’s time for a Superbad reunion, ladies and gents! Okay, well maybe not a full reunion, but at least one with Jonah Hill and Emma Stone, and with that in mind, we need to appreciate just how far they’ve come in the decade or so since that movie hit.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s talk about the limited series Maniac, why don’t we? Maniac is hitting from Netflix this coming weekend, and as such, they’ve opted to release a teaser. That’s right. not a trailer, but a teaser. Considering they’re taking that approach, I can only assume there are some major spoilers within the plot that make them want to keep as much of it as secret as possible. But what exactly is this movie about?

It’s hard to infer completely, but in the story, it looks like Stone and Hill are two chronically-depressed people who opt to take on some sort of experimental procedure. This procedure seems to consist of potential life simulations wherein the two of them consistently are drawn to one another.

Black Mirror fans, if you watched this and thought about the episode Hang the DJ, you aren’t alone. Though, as stated above, it’s difficult to infer a plot from this, so I can’t guarantee the similarities will be there when the actual film drops.

Below is the official synopsis for Maniac:

“We are lost without connection.

As a mysterious pharmaceutical trial takes a turn, Annie Landsberg (Emma Stone) and Owen Milgrim (Jonah Hill) form a connection that could save their lives. MANIAC premieres September 21.”

Maniac comes from True Detective director Cary Fukunaga.
