Two of Australia’s gems, Teresa Palmer and Miranda Otto star in the new psychological thriller, The Clearing. Palmer and Otto take us through the story of a cult life with many layers of torment and mystery. 

The Synopsis 

When a local girl (Julia Savage, “Blaze”) goes missing, it triggers a woman’s (Teresa Palmer, “Warm Bodies”) memories from her childhood as a member of The Kindred – one of the few female led cults in history. Based on the crime thriller by J.P. Pomare, this exclusive original series follows the nightmares of a cult survivor who’s forced to face the demons from her past in order to stop the kidnapping and coercion of innocent children in the future. “The Clearing” is an emotional and psychological thriller that burrows under the skin and inside the mind, blurring the lines between past and present, reality and nightmare.

While Teresa Palmer attended Mercedes College she won a casting audition in Searching for a Movie Star. Palmer took a few years of acting classes while still attending school and officially started her career in television commercials in her native Australia. Eventually she left the university to take on her first feature film, 2:37. Among some of her known projects are I am Number Four, Warm Bodies, Lights Out and Berlin Syndrome. Last year she appeared in the television series The Discovery of Witches and Shudders The Twin.

Before Mirnada Otto graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Arts in Sydney she had already performed at the Nimrod Theater and had been in films like Emma’s War, Initiation and The 13th Floor. Otto’s debut in Hollywood came when she took part in What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. She is now known internationally for portraying Edwyn in The Lord of the Rings franchise, and hits like The Thin Red Line and War of the Worlds. Recently she was seen in The Portable Door and Netflixs Wellman. 

During last month’s press day for The Clearing I was able to speak with Teresa Palmer and Miranda Otto via Zoom. They both discussed how they both prepared to play in a dark cult world. Otto discussed her character little further as a cult leader. There was of course the question on how they created their character if The Clearing is based on a novel and more!

The Clearing premieres May 24, 2023 on Hulu
