With Terminator: Dark Fate seemingly revolving around Mackenzie Davis and Linda Hamilton’s Grace and Sarah Connor protecting a young girl from Gabriel Luna’s Rev-9 Terminator, it does beg the question as to what Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role in the movie will be?
We know that Arnie is playing a T-800 again, and that somewhat like the ill-fated Terminator: Genysis, this T-800 has aged in his time in the past. But what exact role he has in the movie seems harder to gauge. Director Tim Miller recently caught up with EW and whilst he didn’t reveal much about Arnold’s role in the movie, he did a tease a warning that fans might not be ready for what his character has become.
“I don’t think people will be ready for what Arnold has become either, because it’s very different.”
How different can it be, is Arnold’s character evil again? That seems highly unlikely given what we’ve seen from the trailers, so it’s going to be interesting to see what Miller is referring to when he says the character will be different. I do hope that Arnold has a role that seems needed and makes sense in the movie. I do worry that they may have shoehorned in a role for him just so they weren’t the first Terminator film to not feature the franchise icon in some way. Even Terminator: Salvation had an excellent CGI version of a young Arnold in the movie.

However, if this franchise is to continue, one can’t help wonder if it is time to move away from Schwarzenegger going forward. Though, at this point we have no idea if any kind of sequels are being planned, or this will be a one off finale for the franchise?
I guess we will see how the new Arnold T-800 shapes up when Terminator: Dark Fate hits theaters on November 1st, though it does hit Europe on October 23rd, just over a week earlier.
