Terminator: Dark Fate To Lose Big Bucks For Paramount

For decades, the Terminator franchise how somehow managed to stay alive. Like Terminators themselves, it refused to die, despite the number of failed attempts there had been at a sequel. With Terminator: Dark Fate, it seemed as though we could get a true follow-up, and with it sitting at 69% on Rotten Tomatoes, it was an admirable attempt that hit a lot of the right notes.

Too bad audiences simply didn’t seem to care. And I can’t blame them. Even as someone who was pumped from what they saw at San Diego Comic-Con, I didn’t end up heading to theaters, as it wasn’t a huge priority of mine.

This past weekend, the film only made $29 million, easily far less than the $49.8 million of the disappointing Terminator: Genisys. Worldwide, it’s at $123.6 million, but with its break-even point at $480 million, per Deadline, it doesn’t look like it stands a chance in hell of making its money back.

Overseas, the movie isn’t looking to make over $200 million, and this film looks on track to take in far less than Genisys’ $89.8 million domestically. Forces combined, its losses look to be substantial for the studio, which is still reeling from the losses of Gemini Man.
