In a recent interview with The Wrap, actress Tessa Thompson talks love in Thor: Love and Thunder. Thompson was chatting about of of her recent and upcoming projects and of course talked turned to the MCU. Thompson first played Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and then reprised the role within Avengers: Endgame. However Valkyrie is also back in Thor: Love and Thunder and the outlet asked the actress what it is like to be Marvel’s first openly LGBTQ character?
“It’s totally exciting. We talk so much about representation and obviously, in terms of the LGBTQIA community, there’s still so much work to be done. But if you look at the comics in the canon, there are so many queer characters! It’s hard because Taika (Waititi, who directed both of Thompson’s “Thor” films) and I would’ve even liked to go further, but in the context of the movies, there’s only so much we can do. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot of time invested in love stories in Marvel movies in general. I think that will be a little different on the new “Thor,” which is exciting. And getting to play a character that historically is not written for somebody that looks like me, all of that felt exciting.”

As the current King of Asgard yeah I guess that is an unusual role for the actress, but more intriguing is how much time Thompson says will be devoted to the love aspects of Love and Thunder. That begs the the question of who is in love with who? Something connected to Thor and Jane, who have already dated and broken up in the MCU makes most obvious sense. Though there have been plenty of fans have speculated that Valk and Jane could actually become a couple. However, I have the sneaking suspicion Valk is being set up for someone else. Given Thompson appears in The Marvels as Valkyrie also, I did wonder about either Cap Marvel herself Carol Danvers. It could also be Monica Rambeau, (given Kamal Khan is far too young currently)?
Could one of these characters make an appearance in Love and Thunder? We know the Guardians show up, but could Captain Marvel show up also? Speculate away, who is Valkyrie getting loved up with?
