Eternals VFX supervisor Stephane Ceretti teases we will see the Ebony Blade and Black Knight in Blade movie in a recent interview with ComicBook. The next appearance of Kit Harrington’s Dane Whitman, aka Black Knight, eventually, was teased by Blade’s voice asking if he was ready to touch that Ebony Blade. Most fans then guess that the next time we will see both Whitman and the Ebony Blade will be within Blade. Whilst not directly confirming this, Ceretti certainly seems to be suggesting that’s what comes next for both the Ebony Blade and Black Knight.
“The funny thing is my second on the show, which is Mårten Larsson my additional supervisor, is actually going to be supervising Blade very soon,” Ceretti told us. “So I told him, I said, ‘I’m giving that to you as a gift, use it wisely and make good out of it.’ But I’m sure it’s going to do actually even better.”
Ceretti also spoke a little about how those effects on the Ebony Blade were achieved within Eternals.
“I showed Chloe [Zhao] these ferromagnetic fluids and things like that. It’s like these little pieces of metal that you bring a magnet, and they start to all align. Actually, that effect was my idea. That we should have the feeling that as he’s getting his finger close to it, the blade almost wants to suck him in. ‘I’m talking to you, and you’re going to be mine.'”
Clearly the glimpse of the Ebony Blade was fleeting in the post-credit scene of Eternals. However one would expect to see far more of the sword in Blade. Will it be Blade where Whitman first touches the Blade and takes on the Black Knight legacy of his family? That certainly appears to be the case for now.
