The Advice George Lucas Gave To Ron Howard When He Came Aboard Solo: A Star Wars Story

Being given the opportunity to bring a Star Wars film to the screen is an honor that comes with a burden. However, coming into salvage a Star Wars film that’s four months into production is a considerably far bigger burden

Ron Howard did just this when he came onboard Solo: A Star Wars Story as a sort of ‘fixer’ for Lucasfilm to try and salvage the movie. Howard was given some advice from an old friend, Star Wars creator, George Lucas. Check out what Howard had to say while speaking with Collider below.

“George Lucas is a mentor, a tremendous friend. He warned me, and he said, ‘Hey look, it’s for the fans, and yet you have to have the courage to hear them but tell the story you wanna tell.’ So he’s all for the galaxy expanding and experimenting. That’s what he prefers the most. He gets most excited about those that wanna push the boundaries of what a Star Wars movie or TV show [can be].”

Considering its now-infamous production I think the movie turned out pretty good. It wasn’t great, it was predictable, but it likely could have been much worse. However, I will always be curious (as I imagine many Star Wars fans will) as to what Solo original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were cooking up before their departure form the project.

With a franchise as big as Star Wars, does an obligation to fans weigh heavier? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below!
