Welcome to Free Talk Friday. Like many of you I watched The Bad Batch SPOILER appearance today. Obviously some readers may not have watched this episode yet, so before I discuss, the obligatory SPOILER warning.
**The Bad Batch Episode 8 SPOILERS Below**
We learned a lot from this episode of The Bad Batch. Crosshair returned and was sent after his old friends, that took up the majority of the runtime this week as Clone Force 99 tried to escape from Crosshair and his Imperials. However perhaps more interesting is the subplot of the Kaminoans. Crosshair is sent to eliminate Clone Force 99, and that includes Omega. The Kaminoans made it clear that she is important to them, and that’s who it is they want returned. Therefore a bounty is issued for Omega’s safe return to Kamino, unbeknownst to the Empire.
Now, we have no idea who it is that was sent after Omega until the very end of the episode when old fan favorite Cad Bane shows up. Cad takes out Hunter, pretty easily, and stuns Omega. When Hunter wakes up, Omega is gone and he and his friends are still running from the Empire.
I would guess that perhaps Bane does not make it back to Kamino with Omega, but perhaps I’m wrong? The next episode could begin with Bane picking up his money and we don’t see him again. However one imagines that bringing back Cad Bane would mean the writers wanted to play with him a little longer, right?
The canon debate that has been answered this week is the fact that Cad Bane is alive post-Revenge of the Sith. You see fans were shown some rough footage of an unaired The Clone Wars arc which saw Boba Fett kill Cad Bane. Since then, fans have debated whether this is canon or not? Truthfully nothing is canon until it is, and an unaired episode cannot be counted as such. However, with Bane’s appearance in The Bad Batch, we have a definitive answer.
That also means that Cad Bane could, for example, show up in The Book of Boba Fett for his first live-action appearance. There has been speculation around Bane appearing since the show was announced. Now we can say it is at least possible, because Bane did not die during the Clone Wars. Unless, Hunter kills him in like the next episode and then that’s that.
The Cad Bane appearance alone makes Episode 8 of The Bad Batch worthy of discussion amongst fans.
The Final Word
I’m still not sure where the story of Season 1 is going on The Bad Batch. We know Omega is important, but still don’t fully know to what extent she is special. There’s a lot more information to come it seems, and that’s cool.
