THE BATMAN: Ben Affleck May Want Out Of The DCEU More Than We Realize

I think Warner Bros may soon be legally obligated to foot the bill for all our medical expenses, because we’re getting whiplash from all the news coming out of the DC camp. The whole situation surrounding Ben Affleck, The Batman, and his overall involvement has been one giant question mark for the past several months.

First Affleck was kind of directing, but no one was saying anything, then they confirmed it, but Affleck is then waffling on the whole thing. Late last year, Affleck expressed his frustration very publicly about everyone constantly asking him about The Batman. While up until that point, he had shown some reticence to comment on the film, it started to feel more and more real that he may step down as director.

A couple weeks ago, he did that very thing. Of course, with him stepping down, fans couldn’t help but wonder if this was a sign that he wanted out of the DC Extended Universe altogether. Rumors have started to circulate about that very thing. Could Affleck, indeed be on his way out of the DCEU? His move into it a few years back seemed to be a logical way to catapult his career to the next level, but in the time since then, his presence hasn’t exactly had the effect we had all hoped.

So what’s the deal? Is he in or out? Speaking on Collider Movie Talk, host John Campea gave some insight into some what some insiders were saying. Again, like all secondhand rumors, be sure to take this with a grain of salt.

“I’ve talked to three separate people, both in one way or another connected in some way to what’s going on at Warner Bros. What all three have told me was that — nothing about whether the script was thrown out or whether they liked the script, nothing about the direction Matt Reeves it taking it, none of that — but one of the things that has come out of the conversation with all three is this. They’re telling me that Ben Affleck, make no mistake, he does want out. He doesn’t want to to be Batman anymore, is what I was told.”

It goes even further than that. Not only are they saying he wants out, but that he is actively attempting an exit strategy.

“I have been told that Affleck is talking with Warner Bros in an attempt to get out of being Batman. And that if they do not let him out of being Batman, the standalone Batman film that ultimately happens will be the last time we see Affleck as Batman.”

Again, even Campea himself said you need to take this info with a grain of salt, but regardless, that’s some of the scuttlebutt that’s making its way around Tinsel Town. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s true or not.

So what do you think? Do you really think Affleck is trying to distance himself from the franchise even though the rumor from Variety writer Justin Kroll stated that he’s happy with the script?

We’ll keep you updated as this compelling drama continues to unfold.
