As with literally every Batman casting ever, Robert Pattinson was a controversial choice. Upon being cast, the predictable jokes about sparkling vampires took off across the internet. But when that all calmed down, fans looked to another problem — Pattinson’s physique. Unlike the absolutely monstrously-sized Ben Affleck, Pattinson is comparatively scrawny. When looking at him, one is more likely to compare him to a hipster than Batman.
But, of course, there’s nothing a little elbow grease and workout can do for the body, right? Hollywood has turned in all sorts of “average Joes” into ripped powerhouses. You need look no further than actors Chris Pratt and Kumail Nanjiani to see what I mean. But the pandemic changed things. All of a sudden, Pattinson was locked in an apartment by himself. A recent interview from him featured him stating he wasn’t doing much of anything to stay in shape.
Could that be true? According to the magazine Healthy for Men, that ain’t exactly true. To start, Pattinson has reportedly cut back on alcohol, processed meats, and fried foods. He is also running five to 10km three to four times a week, doing “bicycle crunches, dumbbell side bends, double crunches, and a superman — with three sets of 25 reps per move.” Outdoors, he’s doing “military-style sandbag routines on the beach,” boxing, and taking long walks.

Or, as I like to call it…he’s living a normal f**king healthy lifestyle!

In the cover article, Pattinson admits that physical fitness was never something that struck him, as he was more involved with the arty side of things.
“It feels as if I’m going full circle and picking up on some of that physicality and strength along the way. I ignored it back then but it’s coming back into a lot of film projects these days. Perhaps I should have listened more in PE!”
With The Batman, Pattinson is very much pushing himself out of his comfort zone.
“Ultimately, I’m not afraid of failure,” Pattinson said. “It’s fair to say I’m a little bit more ambitious in the roles I’m choosing now. A few years ago, I would have run a mile from anything with a physical edge.”
Well, while it doesn’t seem like he’s doing anything too out of the ordinary, it’s nice to know he’s making an effort. I honestly didn’t have too much of a concern about his physique for the role, but didn’t like his seeming lack of commitment. The lack of effort he was apparently putting into the workouts, to me, was a symptom, not the main problem.
If the magazine issue is anything to go off of, it sounds like Robert Pattinson is back on board as Batman.
