The Batman Production Moving Forward Without Robert Pattinson As Star Recovers From COVID?

Pattinson On How Different Tonally The Batman Is And Sequel Teases

Is The Batman production already moving forward?

As was reported widely yesterday, The Batman has hit a bit of a speed bump. Not long after production commenced, it was abruptly halted when a member of team tested positive for COVID-19. As it turned out, however, star Robert Pattinson was the one who was struck by the virus. In the midst of all this, there were widespread reports that production on The Batman had effectively halted. However, not long after, there was word that production was actually moving forward.

That report came from The Daily Mail. Admittedly, this isn’t the most reputable news source, so I was ready to report this with the caveat that there was a good chance it wasn’t remotely true. Regardless, the outlet stated the crew was working “round the clock” to shoot without Pattinson amid fears of the shutdown costs.

The more reputable Variety, however, is reporting that this is NOT the case. According to their insiders, this story is flat-out false. They state that The Batman production continues to be on pause. That being said, work is still apparently being done on sets and props. However, this only goes for the crew were not in contact with Pattinson. Those who worked with the star are quarantining. The outlet finds it unlikely actual shooting will continue until after the quarantine period ends.

This is actually very good to hear. While I can understand the desire to run off and shoot everything that doesn’t feature Pattinson, the fact is there would likely be a lot of overlapping crew. That would only lead to more potential spread, and would not be a wise way to go, in this writer’s opinion. It would have been quite the hypocritical statement from Warner Bros. to move forward with actual production, especially after comments from CEO Ann Sarnoff.

“I think we never expected things to go completely smoothly,” she told THR in a recent interview. “In fact, as we’ve been getting our protocols ready, we built in contingencies. If someone tests positive, you do contact tracing, you pause, you evaluate, and come back when you can. I think it would have been naïve to think we wouldn’t have certain cases on certain productions. The most important thing is to be ready for when that happens. And we were very much ready.”

I’m just happy to hear their contingencies aren’t simply going forward with production without the one who tested positive. Regardless, it does sound like they are trying to make the best of the situation by putting those to work who didn’t have contact with Pattinson. If all goes well, perhaps all their hard work can help make up for lost time.
