The Batman: Robert Pattinson Enjoys Knowing He Can Mess Up Batman, Compares Role To Twilight

Arkhum Asylum gets a showrunner in The Staircase creator Antonio Campos. It also seems GCPD still a separate project being developed.

You can’t say Batman star Robert Pattinson isn’t an interesting actor. He first exploded into the pop-culture-sphere in Harry Potter and exploded even further with Twilight. However, since then, his role selection has been decidedly less…conventional. His roles have ranged from big-budget to indie, but his indie roles are the ones that come across as the most bizarre. It’s clear the dude loves to take chances (see: his accent in The Devil All the Time).

With that in mind, it almost makes sense that he’d find a thrill to playing Batman. Speaking with Total Film (via MovieWeb), Pattinson discussed taking on the Caped Crusader. Notably, just how big the stakes were and how big the stage would be he’d be acting on. In doing so, he made an interesting comparison.

“I weirdly enjoyed it during Twilight, the idea that you can mess it up,” he said. “I guess I felt confident. I wanted to be on the big stage. There’s a slightly different feeling when you know loads and loads of people are going to watch something you’re working on.”

Well, I can’t blame Pattinson for feeling that way. Part of the thrill of acting has to do with being in front of an audience, and the anxiety of potentially slipping it up. But don’t think that means he won’t come in with the mindset of ruining the role. Based on his comments about Batman, it certainly sounds like Pattinson is well invested in the role.

“It’s not an origin tale, and you’re meeting him in the early days,” he said. “And for me, what’s really important about this iteration is that you know a lot of the other stories are about how he had to master his fear and master himself in order to become Batman. And that in that Batman state, he’s sort of in his best self. I hope what’s different about what we’re doing is try and do it in exactly that sort of manner and then of course the other things that are from the earlier history of the context of him being the world’s greatest detective and how we got there.”

Well, I know plenty of us are excited to see just how Pattinson’s take on the character mixes and matches elements from all the other iterations of the character. And I know even more of us can’t wait to see the dude’s detective skills. It’s something he’s well-known for in the comics that has never quite made it to the big screen.
