The Batman Teaser Hits: What We Learned About The New Matt Reeves Film At DC FanDome [VIDEO]

Arkhum Asylum gets a showrunner in The Staircase creator Antonio Campos. It also seems GCPD still a separate project being developed.

I know what you’re here for. Here’s The Batman teaser.

As tends to happen whenever a Batman is revealed, fans scratched their heads when Robert Pattinson was revealed as Bruce Wayne. While he has a pretty solid filmography behind him, not many saw him as the Caped Crusader. We had our first look Battinson during a costume test, but following the COVID-19 pandemic, things were kind of brought to a halt. But that’s not to say that director Matt Reeves’ enthusiasm was brought to a halt.

During the DC FanDome event, Matt Reeves discussed his love for the character of Batman. Among many different aspects, Reeves discussed his appreciation for Batman’s undying push for justice within Gotham City.

Batman’s Rogues’ Gallery

Also pretty interesting is that Reeves discussed the rouges’ gallery. While we are a couple of years into the Batman’s reign, his villains are only just getting started. Many of the villains we know have not fully been set in stone just yet.

Gotham P.D.

And on that note, Reeves discussed the Gotham P.D. series, which will go deeper into the corrupt inner workings of the city. He went on to confirm that the story will take place during year one of Batman’s work in the city of Gotham, which is pretty cool. Also, unlike the TV show Gotham, they really need to make sure that the story isn’t dependent on Batman or the building of his rogues’ gallery, as the film would be one of the focuses of that. But, of course, that last part is just speculation.

Gotham City

Reeves also discussed how they will be basing Gotham City on Liverpool, and how they will be adding onto the classic architecture to make their own unique city.

How People Think of The Batman

We are diving into the second year of Batman’s reign of Gotham City. With that in mind, what do the citizens think of him? Well, at this time, it seems as though citizens fear Batman. Given how Bruce Wayne created the Batman symbol, it’s quite fitting, but it’ll be interesting to see that perspective portrayed. What sort of interactions will we get from standard citizens? Will it feel a lot like Batman Begins or something different?

The Batman’s Inspirations

They are treating this Batman story as if this could have happened. Since Batman has no heroic powers, it seemed like an opportunity to play things grounded. Reeves cited Chinatown as an inspiration for The Batman, more specifically the series of murdered that Batman follows, as well as the flawed look of a main character. He also cited Taxi Driver as an inspiration.

How Much Has Been Shot?

According to Reeves, they’ve only shot 25% of the film. That means there’s still for them to shoot in the months to come. So, as cool as The Batman teaser is, we still have a lot more to see.
