The Birds Of Prey To Go Up Against Black Mask

Recently we had reported on the announcement of the female lineup for DC’s Birds of Prey which includes Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, Cassandra Cain and of course Harley Quinn. But like any good film our “heroes” are going to need a good antagonist and it looks like they have found him.

According to TheWrap Gotham City mob boss and Batman villain Black Mask will be making his big screen debut as the villain for the film. He was created by Doug Moench and Tom Mandrake and made his first appearance in DC Comics’ Batman #386 in August 1985. Like we already mentioned he is a Gotham mob boss and leader of the False Face Society. His real name is Roman Sionis and he has often gone after Bruce Wayne not Batman.

Cathy Yan is set to direct the film, based on a script written by Christina Hodson. The film will be produced by Sue Kroll of Kroll & Co Entertainment, Bryan Unkeless of Clubhouse Pictures and Robbie who will also be reprising her role as Harley Quinn.

Black Mask has already been featured in television and video games. In 2004 he first appeared on television in the animated series The Batman, where he was voiced by James Remar. Later in 2008 he appeared in the animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold, voiced by John DiMaggio. Probably his best know appearance to date would be in the animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood, where he was voiced by Wade Williams as the main antagonist.

Besides there was a version of Black Mask that appeared in the first season of Gotham in the episode titled The Mask, where he was played by Todd Stashwick as Richard Sionis. As far as video games he makes a brief appearance in Batman: Arkham City before he appeared in Batman: Arkham Origins with an interesting plot twist.
