The Cellar Trailer Reveals Gateways Into Other Spiritual Dimensions

The Cellar with Elisha Cuthbert

In the darkness of a basement, one only wonders if there’s something malevolent lurking in those shadows. In The Cellar, something dark and devious lies in the room and a family soon discovers the entire house opens pathways into the unknown.

The film stars Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door, 24), Eoin Macken (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, The Forest), Abby Fitz (Der Irland-Krimi), and Dylan Fitzmaurice-Brady (Kin, Tides). Brendan Muldowney (Love Eternal, The Ten Steps) directed and wrote the movie.

Here is the official synopsis:

The Cellar tells the story of Keira Woods (Cuthbert), whose daughter mysteriously vanishes in the cellar of their new house in the country. Keira soon discovers there is an ancient and powerful entity controlling their home that she will have to face or risk losing her family’s souls forever.

The film is a full-length feature movie that was based on the director’s The Ten Steps that was on the festival circuit back in 2004. The tone of the film is a mix of The Haunting and The Innocents with the blend of J-horror and K-horror films such as Ringu, The Grudge, and a Tale of Two Sisters in an Irish setting. There’s something about the Irish folklore that makes it seem like a natural setting for the horror genre.

Not to mention, I adored Elisha Cuthbert a couple of decades when she appeared in 24 and was in the comedy The Girl Next Door and the horror House of Wax remake. Those two films became cult movies, but she has been on television series with Happy Endings and The Ranch in the past decade.

The Cellar is in select theaters and streaming on Shudder beginning April 15.
