The Divergent Series is set to continue when the two-part entry entitled Allegiant unspools its first half into theaters on March 18 of next year. That first part is being directed by Robert Schwenke and will introduce some new characters to the cinematic leg of the saga. One of those characters is David, the leader of the Bureau of Genetic Warfare. This bureau also happens to be the entity that created the factions that now divide the world, which is a system that Shailene Woodley’s Tris is leading a rebellion against.
There’ll be more to this bureau than meets the eye as their intentions behind the factions becomes clearer.
One thing that is clear at the moment is who has been lined up to play David. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber, The Newsroom) is in the final stages of negotiations to take on the role. When that deal is finalized, it would be the second major part in a significant blockbuster that Daniels has bagged as of late- with the other being Ridley Scott’s The Martian, which will star Matt Damon.
He’s also set to appear in Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, so it’s clear that the actor has landed on his feet after his HBO series The Newsroom got the axe.
