When will Percy Jackson hit Disney+?

Fans are an eager bunch. No matter how quickly someone puts out content, it can always be done faster. And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Many creators are grateful that anyone is around to consume their content, and fans are often simply ignorant of the time it takes to create. As a result, you get over-eager fans who hear about a new book or TV series and want it yesterday. I’m sure this is the case for many Percy Jackson fans. They’ve already seen the franchise get squandered on the big screen and want to see it done right on the small screen.

Author Rick Riordan has been happy to oblige. He kept fans updated as he pitched the show to Disney+, and now development is underway. Just yesterday, we reported on the news that Riordan and co. had just finished outlining the pilot episode. But how long would it be until we saw the series come to fruition? Well, don’t hold your breath waiting for it. Yes, it’ll come, but it won’t be for a good while.

“So it takes me 6-12 months just to write a novel all by myself,” Riordan tweeted. “Making a TV show is infinitely more complicated, especially w/ unknown factors like the pandemic in play. We are still in the earliest stages of writing, which will take months. Most optimistic guess 2 years? Maybe?”

This is pretty much what I expected, in all honesty. I can see there being another year or so until production hits — and that’s assuming writing goes smoothly. From there, if there are no production hiccups, a 2022 release seems feasible. That being said, nothing is ever for sure in the world of film and TV. 

At the very least, Riordan is being upfront about this. Hopefully, fans will adjust their expectations accordingly. Regardless, I’m sure there are plenty who will still be excited whenever this series does eventually hit the streamer.
