I’m afraid there is no way to report on this without some SPOILERS, so beware. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier mystery character that has been teased for weeks was revealed in Episode 5 which aired today. Therefore, if you do not wish to know who that was until you’ve seen it, come back and read this article later.
**The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Episode 5 SPOILERS**
Still with me? Then you must have watched it like me already, or just don’t care. Episode 5 saw John Walker visited by a mysterious woman played by Julia Louise-Dreyfus. The veteran actress is playing Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. In the comics, this character was more commonly known as Madame Hydra, or at least one of the many Madame Hydra’s. It kinda sounds to me like ‘Val’ may be putting a team together, a la Nick Fury? Though, I’m guessing this team might be called Thunderbolts and not the Avengers.
However, what is interesting is a report today from Vanity Fair. The trade basically confirm they knew Louise-Dreyfus was in this and say that she will also appear in Black Widow. The trade goes on to say that Black Widow was originally supposed to be her first appearance as Val in the MCU. Remember that back in the days pre-COVID, Black Widow was supposed to come out just before The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. This appearance from Val would have been the second time we see her in the MCU.

With some guess work on my part, I’ll guess that Val might have visited Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh. So far we have heard rumors of Thunderbolts a few times and Yelena’s name has been attached. Could Marvel Studios be planning a Thunderbolts show or movie? It’s definitely possible that we could get an MCU ‘Suicide Squad’ of sorts, though the tone is very different with Thunderbolts, as they likely won’t all die at the end.
Is Val, (or maybe she will end up being Madame Hydra) playing the Nick Fury role here of connecting towards a Thunderbolts team? That’s my bet, especially now we know the character appears in Black Widow. A Black Widow film that also has a certain Thunderbolt Ross in it I might add. I can see now why Marvel Studios were initially keen for Black Widow to hit before The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Alas, it couldn’t be done. One wonders what Val’s motivations were over 5 years ago before the blip even happened?
What do you think of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier mystery character being Madame Hydra? What do you think of the news she appears in Black Widow also? Leave any thoughts below.
