The 1976 film Omen is one of the best horror stories about a demon child, starring Gregory Peck. The franchise had a couple of sequels and even a remake in 2006, but The First Omen takes a crack at telling their story before Damien enters the world as the son of Satan.

The film stars Nell Tiger Free (Servant), Tawfeek Barhom (Mary Magdalene), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Ralph Ineson (The Northman), and Bill Nighy (Living).

Here is the brief synopsis:

The First Omen is a prequel to the horror classic franchise and tells the story of when a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, and she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

Although I’m excited about this franchise installment, the sequels, and the remake fell short of expectations. Hopefully, The First Omen can return to the creepiness of storytelling, but it will certainly be different with out the son of Satan as the main antagonist. But, with a cast of Ralph Ineson and Bill Nighy, they can bring horror into this film. As a plus, Nell Tiger Free was sensational in the M. Night Shyamalan series Servant if you haven’t watched it. She’ll be perfect as the young American woman struggling with these unknown forces.

The First Omen is in theaters on Friday, April 5.
