The Five Devils Trailer Has A Little Girl With a Magical Gift

The Five Devils

In an art house supernatural drama, The Five Devils is a mystery of a young girl who navigates through her memories by collecting the scents she favors.

The film stars Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Colour), Swala Emati, Moustapha Mbengue, Daphne Patakia (Benedetta), and Sally Dramé. Léea Mysius directed the film.

Here is the full synopsis of the film:

Vicky, a strange and solitary little girl, has a magical gift: she can reproduce any scent she likes, and collects them in a series of carefully labeled jars. She has secretly captured the scent of Joanne, her mother for whom she nurtures a wild, excessive love. When her father’s sister Julia bursts into their life, Vicky reproduces her smell and is transported into dark and archaic memories which lead her to uncover the secrets of her village, her family, and her own existence.

The supernatural art house film made its premiere at the recent Cannes Film Festival, which is described as “a queer love story” and a “witchy thriller.” The trailer itself has a few traces of a thriller, but the portrayal of any love story is yet to be seen in this very brief trailer.

MUBI acquired the rights for distribution, which fits perfectly into its library of films—particularly foreign films like this.

The Five Devils is in limited theaters in New York and Los Angeles on March 24, followed by a nationwide rollout in the following weeks.
