The Flash: Director Teases A Different Take On Classic ‘Flashpoint’ Story

I honestly wondered whether The Flash would ever happen, not only have things changed a lot in the DCEU since The Flash made his first appearance in Batman V Superman, but the movie also went through directors like no one’s business.

However, it does look as though this movie is finally beginning to take shape under new helmsman Andy Muschietti (IT). The director recently spoke about his upcoming projects when he appeared on That Hashtag Show, and whilst he didn’t say much about The Flash, he did say that it would be using Flashpoint, the classic comic book story, though it would be a…

“different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting.”

I am unsure of what that might mean, because in reality there have been quite a few variations on the Flashpoint story. Comic books, animated, and other mediums have all adapted their own version of the time travel tale, and all were quite different from one another.

So what would I expect? Time travel, of course, Flash stopping his mother’s death, but the result having negative repercussions….and that’s about all I’d expect from this movie. So I am intrigued by Muschietti’s words here, and how it will be so unexpected. It has been theorized by various fans and outlets including LRM that Flashpoint could act as a semi-reboot of the DCEU, possibly finding a way to bring in Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman, and perhaps even a new version of Superman. It less likely appears as time goes by that Henry Cavill will suit up as Superman again, though I do hope I am wrong on that front, I really do. Still, the fan theories may be completely out the window, all we can say with some certainty is that Wonder Woman and Aquaman appear to be sticking around for a while longer.

The Flash is slated for a July 1st, 2022 release date, and filming set to begin on the movie starring Ezra Miller sometime this year after initial reports of a 2019 start date were proved incorrect.
