Actor Bryan Callen, who is probably most well known for playing Coach Mellor on ABC’s wonderful tribute to the 80s, The Goldbergs, has joined the cast of the new Joaquin Phoenix Joker film. Callen will play an aging stripper in the film, and while appearing on The Fighter and the Kid podcast, Callen spoke as much about the part as he was allowed. While he wasn’t allowed to say much, he did reassure us he will be wearing a Speed-O in the role.
“I’m doing the Joker. I was offered a part. That’ll be fun, but I think it’s only a couple days. Play an aging dancer, stripper. I don’t want to go into the details. I can’t go into the details, but just know it’s gonna be good. And I hope my psoriasis is flaring cause that’ll be very funny. I’ll be in a Speed-O, I can’t wait. I have some ideas for it.”

Callen is great as the coach on The Goldbergs and is set to star in the spin-off of the show, Schooled. Even though it is likely not a huge role, from what I have seen of Callen (alot of which is him being a frequent guest on The Joe Rogan Experience) and the little we do know about the character, his Joker role seems to be right in his wheelhouse.
Also rumored to be in talks for roles in the film are Francis Conroy (American Horror Story) and Marc Maron (GLOW).
Written and directed by Todd Phillips, and starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime, Joker, is said to be a smaller budget film in comparison to most superhero projects.
The film is set for an October 2019 release date.
