The Hard Road To Redemption In The Second Trailer For The Way Back

I am not sure exactly what it is about sports films that have caught our attention throughout the years. It could be that there is something inspiring about seeing a team or coach go on a journey and end up usually finding some level or redemption. Films like Remember the Titans, Miracle and Coach Carter to name a few are some of my favorites. This March we are going to add another one of these films to the list.

Warner Bros. Pictures will be debuting The Way Back on March 6th, 2020. It is directed by Gavin O’Connor and stars Ben Affleck. This is a reunion of the two after their 2016 thriller, The Accountant. Today they have released a second trailer to the film which you can check out above.

As a basketball fan I am very interested in this film especially knowing that O’Connor is at the helm. Affleck stars as Jack Cunningham, a once promising athlete who gave up a full scholarship and fell into alcoholism. Almost a decade later he gets a shot to redeem himself when his old school asks him to coach their struggling basketball team.

Here is the full synopsis for The Way Back:
Jack Cunningham (Ben Affleck) once had a life filled with promise. In high school, he was a basketball phenom with a full university scholarship, when suddenly, for reasons unknown, he walked away from the game, forfeiting his future. Now years later, Jack is spiraling down, triggered by an unspeakable loss, and drowning in the alcoholism that cost him his marriage and any hope for a better life.

When he is asked to coach the basketball team at his alma mater, which has fallen far since his glory days, he reluctantly accepts, surprising no one more than himself. As the boys start to come together as a team and win, Jack may have finally found a reason to confront the demons that have derailed him. But will it be enough to fill the void, heal the deep wounds of his past, and set him on the road to redemption?

When I think of Ben Affleck films I think of films like Argo, The Town, Gone Girl and Armageddon. It will be great to seem him take on a role like this in a sports film. We know he is a very talented actor and there is no doubt he has the ability to rock this character. Are you interested The Way Back? Let us know in the comment section below!
