Audiences love super-assassins on the big screen. They’re calculated, calm and effective murderers with a definite high body count and seemingly indestructible in fights. American-Korean co-production The Killer starring Jang Hyuk doesn’t pull any punches in this ultraviolent action movie.
Hyuk is a very familiar face in South Korea since his explosive performance in Volcano High and Windstruck. Also, he starred in Bloody Heart and The Swordman. With quite a few action films under his belt, he’s best suited to gun down thugs without any second thought.
Other cast members included Lee Seo-young (KPop singer of GWSN) and Bang Eun-jung (My Roommate is a Gumino, Young Adult Matters). Jae-Hoon Choi directed the movie from the screenplay written by Ji-Woong Nam.
Here is the official synopsis:
Based on a popular Korean web novel, The Killer is a stylistic, anime-like, action-thriller in the vein of John Wick, The Raid, and The Man from Nowhere. It stars Jang Hyuk, a veteran actor, who has recently made his mark in the action genre, doing his own stunts and choreographing fight scenes.
Ui-gang is a hit man who has decided to retire. He has a nice house and all the money he needs, but one day his girlfriend takes a trip to Jeju Island and leaves him with a request. Her companion on the trip has a 17-year-old daughter Yoon-ji who will be left alone during their three-week vacation. Ui-gang reluctantly agrees to look after Yoon-ji and make sure she doesn’t get into trouble.
