Lots of news coming out lately about the different shows that are going to be part of the yet to be named DC direct to consumer digital service that is set to premiere sometime this year. One of those shows is Titans from Greg Berlanti, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros. Television.
Joining the cast opposite of Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop and Teagan Croft according to DEADLINE will be Bruno Bichir. He will be playing Dr. Niles Caulder aka The Chief, a brilliant but controversial pioneer in medical science. Although confined to a wheelchair, he searches the world for people on the edge of death in desperate need of a miracle. He stops at nothing to help those he believes are in need, which include his collection of heroes known as The Doom Patrol.
The Chief first appeared in comes in DC Comics’ My Greatest Adventure #80 and was created by writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney with the artwork by Bruno Premiani. One interesting note is that he resembles Marvel Comic’s Professor X of the X-Men, but The Chief was created a few months before the leader of the X-men.
Bichir has recently wrapped up filming a regular role in the popular Netflix series Narcos. He also recurs on Sony Pictures Television Networks’ Absentia. Later this year he will be seen playing Angel in the Sicario sequel Soldado opposite Benicion del Toro.
A week ago, Geoff Johns had tweeted the cover of a script for Titans for Episode 105 which as you can see is titled “The Doom Patrol”. With the casting of The Chief, it will be interesting to see what kind of role he plays alongside the Doom Patrol. Hopefully we’ll get more information soon.
