Over the past year or so, Chris McKay has been preoccupied. From what we knew, the filmmaker — who is best known for his work as director on The LEGO Batman Movie — was hard at work on a Nightwing film set in the DC Extended Universe. Many moons have passed since we’ve last heard anything about that project, and it turns out there’s a reason why all’s been silent on the Nightwing front.

According to a new report from TheWrap, McKay has signed on to another Warner Bros. project, and a familiar IP to animation lovers. The IP in question is none other than Jonny Quest — the Hanna Barbera cartoon that followed the globetrotting quest of Jonny Quest, son of a scientist. The series hit in the 1960s and re-emerged in the 1980s and 1990s, where my generation caught on.

A few years back, Alita: Battle Angel director Robert Rodriguez was set to helm the film, but that fell through not long after it was announced. McKay certainly has his plate full. In addition to the live-action Nightwing movie, he also has Dungeons & Dragons, which may be his next time at the helm.

So when will all of this go down? Your guess is as good as mine. Ideally, you could imagine the studios want to get these things cranked out every year and a half or two years, but Hollywood isn’t a business built on a reliable schedule so we’ll have to wait and see.
