Okay, so I think I need to make a new policy for myself. I’m no longer allowed to judge a Disney movie for skewing too close to the original animated film. As both Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin have proven, I really have no problem with those movies largely playing out the same with slight changes and embellishments to help increase the scope and layers of the thing. I’m a part of the problem, and I need to stop acting like I still won’t be seeing these damn things in theaters.

This includes the upcoming Lion King film. Does this look like it’s trying too hard to replicate the scenes from the original film? Yes. Do I still think this is nothing but a cheap excuse for Disney to print more money? yes. Does it affect whether or not I will be sitting my ass in theaters? Not at all. This point is driven home by a whole new batch of character posters. Check them out below:

These new posters give us an up-close look at the new takes on the beloved characters, highlighting the actors taking on the voice acting roles. And yeah, they look all kinds of gorgeous. Even if this is an unnecessary remake, the bounds they are making in technology are fantastic.

Below is the official synopsis for The Lion King:

“Disney’s The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (The Jungle Book), journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.”
