The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 teaser trailer is here, as is the premiere date, so let’s take a look and see what we think of it? The Rings of Power Season 2 finally also has a release date. The Season 2 premiere is on August 29 on Amazon Prime. This is the first official glimpse we have had into Season 2 of Amazon’s big budget series. Check it out for yourselves.

So, I have to say that what I’m being teased here for Season 2, is more of what I expected from Season 1. As in, Sauron clothing himself as an Elf and hiding amongst them, sowing discord. I’m still not a fan of the whole Sauron was trying to be different/Halbrand thing from Season 1. Let him just be a bad guy and lets get to see his subterfuge on screen. Thankfully that seems to be pretty much what we are getting.

As for what else can we glean from this trailer?

Well I think it’s The Stranger’s voice we hear tell of the danger to every soul in Middle-earth. We also clearly see Durin’s father taking what one must assume is a Ring of Power. Realistically it would be centuries before Dwarves received any Rings in the mythology. However, we already know this is a squishing together of all those events (3k + years) over a much shorter time frame.

I’m not 100% sure on what the oozing black ‘Venom like’ thing is. Kinda hope that’s not what Shelob is supposed to look like at this point, as Shelob is reportedly in Season 2. But ultimately, it looks like Season 2 will be Sauron infiltrating the Elves, and Dwarves perhaps, Sauron will direct more Rings being made by Celebrimbor, then it seems help distribute them. Whether Season 2 see’s Sauron forging the One Ring remains to be seen. However, if the battle of Eregion is happening in the right chronological order, then it should be after Sauron initially puts on the One and is discovered by the Elves wearing the Three.

It remains to be seen how good Season 2 will be. It already feels more like the story I was expecting on a surface level. However, a teaser trailer is no way  to make any kind of judgement. I said on Twitter yesterday, I wonder if this teaser can make me excited for Season 2 or not? Well, I would not say excited, as I’m not. However, I am intrigued enough to make sure I watch this on premiere date. In that respect I guess Amazon has done their job. After this, it’s up to the writers and directors to keep me tuning in each week.
